Friedlander was a home rebuild project based in Hermanus, facing the coast. The existing house had been the family’s home for years, and the clients wanted it to be rebuilt into a simple home that required low maintenance with a feel for easy living. A simple specification doesn’t always mean a simple build as we discovered the plot was on a former marshland, and the new marshy soil conditions needed to be immediately accommodated in our plans to keep the build on track.
We adapted to the conditions by preparing a platform for the house to provide a strong and reliable foundation. Whilst this unforeseen obstacle added time to the original schedule, we were innovative in our approach and successfully routed the drainage of the water from the land into a filtration tank, which now supplies the house with water to the taps. The natural water supply was a surprise bonus for the clients, and we were happy the finished project exceeded their expectations.
